About the project
Photographic ascent of Gran Paradiso, iconic 4061m summit straddling France and Italy.
Conquering Gran Paradiso, the only 4000m peak entirely in Italy. Capturing hanging glaciers, snowy ridges and the exceptional panorama over the Alps. This project captures the majesty of 4000-meter peaks and the unique experience of high-altitude mountaineering.
Access
From Pont (Aosta Valley), reach the Vittorio Emanuele II refuge (2732m). Access by cable car to 2175m then 2h30 walk. Departure for the summit at 3am from the refuge. Normal route via glacier and northwest ridge. Distance: 6 km round trip, elevation: 1330m, duration: 6-8h. High mountain climbing.

Best season
Best period: June to September, ideally July-August. Very early departure mandatory (3am-4am) to avoid serac fall risks and benefit from good snow conditions. Plan 2 days with overnight at the refuge. Check snow conditions and weather.
Recommended equipment
Camera + wide-angle lens, light telephoto, ultra-light tripod or mini-tripod, polarizing filters, spare batteries (sensitive to cold), waterproof protection. Mountaineering equipment: crampons, ice axe, harness, rope (if roped), helmet, mountaineering boots, high-altitude clothing, high-protection glacier glasses, SPF 50+ sunscreen.
