Calanques of Cassis - Mediterranean Jewels
Cassis, Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence
About the project
Photographic exploration of the Calanques of Cassis, spectacular limestone cliffs plunging into the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.
The Calanques of Cassis represent one of the most iconic landscapes of the French Mediterranean coast. This project aims to capture the wild beauty of these limestone fjords: Port-Miou, Port-Pin and En-Vau, as well as the more difficult to access calanques. The white cliffs contrasting with the deep blue sea, secret coves, Mediterranean vegetation and plays of light on limestone rock offer spectacular compositions. The objective is to reveal the diversity of this national park: coastal hikes, vertiginous viewpoints and unique marine atmospheres.
Access
From Cassis, several options: hiking from the town center (marked trails, free access but regulated), shuttle boat from Cassis port (guided calanques tour), or sea kayak for the more athletic. For En-Vau: 1h30 walk from La Gardiole parking (paid, limited parking). Port-Pin: 1h walk. Port-Miou: 30 min. Regulated access in summer (June-September) due to fire risk: check conditions on calanques-parcnational.fr.

Chargement de la carte...
Best season
Best period: April-June and September-October (pleasant temperatures, fewer access restrictions). Avoid July-August (often closed access, high heat, overcrowding). Exceptional sunrise on En-Vau for golden light on cliffs. Late afternoon ideal for Port-Pin and Port-Miou. Water particularly transparent and colorful between 10am and 2pm. Check access conditions daily (massif closed during strong winds or high fire risk).
Recommended equipment
Camera + wide-angle (16-35mm) essential for landscapes and cliffs, standard lens (24-70mm) for versatility, telephoto (70-200mm) for calanque details and compressions. Tripod for long exposures (smooth water). Polarizing filter (intensify water blue, reduce reflections), ND for long exposures. Waterproof backpack for hiking, sturdy hiking shoes. Plenty of water (no water points on trails), cap, high protection sunscreen. Power bank as no recharge possible.
