Lac Vert in Passy: Photographing a Forest Alpine Lake
Turquoise water, forest, and Mont Blanc in the distance: tips for visiting and photographing Lac Vert in Passy.

Turquoise water, forest, and Mont Blanc in the distance: tips for visiting and photographing Lac Vert in Passy.
At the foot of the Fiz range, Lac Vert has a different feel from Haute-Savoie's wide-open lakes. Forest lines the shore, and on a clear day the Mont Blanc massif appears in the distance. It is an accessible place for a walk, but a fragile one: stay on paths and respect protected areas.
Chargement de la carte...
The shores of Lac Vert: From permitted paths around the lake, use trees in the foreground and reflections behind them. A standard focal length keeps the scene balanced; a telephoto can isolate peaks between branches. Water colour shifts with the light and season, so expose to retain detail in the reflections.
Choose morning or late afternoon to avoid harsh contrast beneath the trees. A lightly overcast sky can preserve subtle tones in the water.
A standard zoom, a gently adjusted polariser, and a microfibre cloth are enough for most shots. Leave the tripod behind if the paths are busy.
Stay on marked paths, keep clear of restricted areas, and leave everything where it is. Check local rules and access conditions before your visit.
Photograph Lac Vert by taking time to watch the reflections and openings in the forest. A simple composition, attentive to colour and care for the site, is enough to bring out its alpine character.
